Jacksonville Restaurant ReviewCool Moose Café has been in business over twenty years!  They don’t have a lot of reviews, however, the ones that are posted rave about their food.  This place is a neighborhood spot offering casual breakfast and lunch with an extensive coffee menu for the coffee lovers out there.

Cool Moose Café’s mission I “Serving delicious affordable food and an expansive selection of coffee all while making you a part of our family.”  They can cater for your office or private functions off site as well as using their space for private events.

The Cool Moose Café is located at 2708 Park Street for breakfast.  You can pre-order for pick up on their website.  In addition to regular eggs and toast, you could order the Meat Lover’s Breakfast Quesadilla which has scrambled eggs with a spicy Ghost Jack cheese, onion, green pepper, tomato, sausage, ham and bacon, in a grilled flour tortilla along with Salsa picada, sour cream and guacamole.

How about a more traditional breakfast?  The Cool Moose Breakfast supplies you a big, hearty breakfast with two far fresh eggs to order, smoked bacon, whole hog sausage, home fries or grits, double stack pancakes and a choice of toast.  The one I thought would be interesting is The Breakfast Portobello.  Take a marinated, grilled, Portobello cap, filled with a saute of onion, mushroom, spinach, tomato and garlic, topped with shaved Parmesan and two eggs to order.  Served with home fries and choice of toast.

I could go on but I should mention they have a variety of omelets as well as a variety of Benedicts.

They use only fresh, local ingredients to create handcrafted cocktails and food.  You can enjoy their rooftop bar and lounge with amazing views of Downtown, St. John’s River and Riverside.

Some of the farm partners are Palatka, Florida Cowboy Meats, Black Hog Farm, Pine Street Deli, Georgia Sweet Grass Dairy, and Wainright Dairy.  No wander they have over seven hundred reviews with four stars.

Open seven days a week, Black Sheep Restaurant serves lunch Monday through Friday, brunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner every night.

Brunch includes Deviled Eggs for Starters which include smoked duke’s mayonnaise, piment d’espellette and house pickles.  Try their Fried Olives served with house made pimento cheese.

Their Entrees include a Fried Green Tomato BLT with smoked bacon, lettuce, plack pepper aioli, green tomato and apple jam.  What about the Wild Georgia Shrimp and Grits?  This meal includes charred broccoli, shallot confit, new orleans barbeque sauce.

For a more traditional breakfast/brunch you can try the Black Sheep Benedict served on a biscuit, Bentons country ham, arugula, poached eggs with a spicy hollandaise sauce.  Their Cardamom Pancakes are served with seasonal fruit, apple butter and maple syrup.

Don’t forget to add a side of Mac and Cheese or their Black Sheep Breakfast Sausage or their Cheese Grits with Wainwright Cheddar and Bacon!

Now a successful group of community stores (they don’t think of themselves as a chain or franchise), they have restaurants all over Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Texas!  If you are lucky, they will open a restaurant near you in the future.

They recruit community leaders to open a restaurant who want to give back to their community.  Our philosophy is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  They wanted to create an atmosphere where people gather to enjoy great food and great company.

Their goal in Jacksonville, FL and any location is to have biscuits that WOW you.  Their flaky biscuits are the staple for any breakfast.  Try them with fried chicken breast, pecan wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese topped with sausage gravy.  Change it up a bit and have the same biscuit and fried chicken breast served with crunchy dill pickles and house made honey.  You can’t go wrong with the BLT with the pecan wood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.  On the sweeter side you could enjoy a French toast biscuit with pecans and cinnamon chips baked in, topped with strawberries and whipped cream.

They don’t just serve biscuits, they have waffles.  With a flair of creativity, their waffles can be ordered with fried chicken, honey butter and maple syrup.  If you get their Flip Flop, you get house-made vanilla bean waffle with asiago and pecan wood smoked bacon baked in with three house-made maple sausage balls and topped with their sausage gravy.  For a lighter appetite try their oatmeal or, bluegrass grits cut with cream cheese.

They even cater to the little people in our lives.  No wonder they have over seven hundred and fifty reviews with over four and one-half stars.
